Happy 2024!

Happy 2024! I love a good reset. Celebrating the New Year empowers me to set new goals, establish new routines and become a better version of myself. It’s so much fun! Starting a new year makes me feel ambitious! I wish you the same zest in the new year!

Portable Nutrition

I love a good smoothie. It’s such a convenient way to pack in portable nutrition. After living with gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy) I have gotten into the routine of not eating naked carbs. What does that mean? That means, I try to balance any carbohydrates I consume with protein. This helps to stabilize my blood sugar. For example, I eat a banana with protein – like two hard boiled eggs or a couple tbsp of nut butter. The protein, and even the fat, help my body to use the energy from my food sources more efficiently. Balanced nutrition like this is actually a good practice for everyone.

This smoothie recipe is a great source of protein – 3/4 cup of 2% Fage Plain Greek Yogurt contains 17 g protein. Most Greek yogurt is high in protein, but the exact amount may vary by brand. This smoothie also contains almond butter, which contains 7 g protein per serving.

Yeah for (Greek) Yogurt!

Greek yogurt is probiotic, meaning it is produced from live bacterial cultures. These bacteria can help support the normal/good bacteria that already live in your digestive system. Consuming probiotics may improve your digestive system’s ability to process a wide variety of foods.

Some benefits of Yogurt:

High in Iodine – Greek yogurt is a great source of iodine. Iodine supports thyroid function and a strong immune system.

Calcium – most common mineral in your body and most of it is in your bones. Getting enough calcium helps to keep your bones denser and less prone to breaking.

Vitamin A – important role in vision, growth, immune function and reproduction.
