Mom’s Italian Dressing
My Mom’s Italian Dressing recipe is the perfect blend of mildly sweet and delightfully herby. It melds the flavors of dried oregano, thyme, basil and parsley with seasonings, creating a dry mix that can be stored in a sealed container for months! To prepare the dressing, simply whisk the mix together with vinegar, oil and water!
Mom’s Italian Dressing Recipe Card
Fifteen years ago I celebrated my engagement to my husband with a wedding shower with all my beloved friends and family. It was such a special occasion I will forever hold near and dear to my heart. Guests showered me with love and excitement and so much joy! They also showered me with their favorite recipes – written down on recipe cards and all! These recipe cards were by far a favorite gift I was given! Some of these recipes were passed down from generation to generation! They included things like “Grandma’s favorite cake”. Or “Aunt Becky’s famous sauce”. “Grandma’s Easter Pie.” They were recipes that were cherished and reminded my shower guests of special times with their loved ones. What an honor to receive! I saved these recipe cards in a special binder and from time-to-time am inspired by these beloved recipes.
Mom’s Italian Dressing was one of these beloved recipe cards. It is a dressing that even when I make it today, it leaves me thinking of my childhood! While the recipe card is a bit worn from kitchen use and from moving across state lines three times, this recipe stands strong! Mom’s Italian Dressing is terrific on salad greens, tossed in a pasta salad and for use as a chicken marinade. It is mildly sweet and herby with warmth from garlic and zest from vinegar.
Why make homemade Italian Dressing?
This recipe prepares a lot of dressing! You only need 2 tbsp of this dry mix to make a bottle of dressing. Simply whisk 2 tbsp of the dry mix with vinegar and oil (and water) and you have a bottle of dressing with a quick stir and a shake.
Mom’s Italian Dressing does not contain preservatives that some store-bought bottled dressings contain. It saves on single-use plastic bottles. It is more cost effective than dressings sold in the store. And it tastes different, and dare I say, better, than any Italian Dressing you will buy in the store.
