This is a basic recipe for how to prepare shredded chicken. This chicken can be used in so many ways. And it can be batch-prepared ahead of time to use throughout the week. It is so incredibly simple I feel compelled to share it here to help make your life just a little easier.
It is worth repeating, that the versatility of this chicken will make this a new favorite! I use it atop salads, I mix it into soups, I make it the star in casseroles and I add it to grain bowls. And in a real pinch, it can stand alone, served aside a steamed vegetable.
All About Protein
Protein is an essential nutrient in any diet as it plays many critical roles in the body. Proteins are the building blocks in the body, making up bones, cartilage, muscle, blood, skin, enzymes, hormones, and more. Proteins are essential for growth and development and repair.
Dietary protein comes in various forms. There are plant based proteins, such as beans, peas, lentils, nuts and seeds. (Even many vegetables and grains contain small amounts of protein). Animal proteins – including meat, fish, dairy and eggs – can be great sources of this essential nutrient. Simple Ingredients
Simple and Juicy Shredded Slow Cooker Chicken is prepared quite basically to leave it versatile enough to use in various dishes. I find I get the most flavor using the following spices to flavor the meat:
Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Paprika, Black Pepper and Kosher Salt. I slow cook chicken breasts (though thighs work well too) with Chicken broth to infuse a little more flavor and keep the meat moist.
I pull it out of the slow cooker and shred it with 2 forks, and then ladle on some additional cooking liquid for adding moisture.
Simple Juicy Slow Cooker Shredded Chicken
Equipment
- 1 Slow Cooker
- 1 Cutting Board
- 2 Forks for shredding
Ingredients
- 2 Chicken Breasts boneless, skinless
- 1 Cup Chicken Broth
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- ½ tsp Onion Powder
- 1 tsp Paprika
- ¼ tsp Ground Black Pepper
- ½ tsp Kosher Salt
Instructions
- Add chicken breasts to the bottom of a slow cooker. Spoon spice mixture atop the chicken.
- Pour broth over the chicken. Cover with the slow cooker lid and set to cook for 4 hours on low heat.
- Once cooking is complete, remove the chicken breasts to a cutting board, reserving the cooking liquid. Shred the chicken with 2 forks. Transfer to a large bowl. Ladle or spoon about ¼-½ Cup of the reserved cooking liquid over the shredded chicken to preserve moisture.
- Shredded Chicken can keep in the fridge for up to a week when covered tightly. Use as needed.
