Baked Apple Chips
Thinly sliced apples are seasoned with cinnamon and baked into a crunchy, naturally sweet treat in these delicious Baked Apple Chips! Enjoy as a fun fall snack, or a great salad topping, or a delicious granola addition, or a seasonal drink garnish or more!
Every year I take my children apple picking. It is a long standing tradition that began when my daughter was just 2 years old. She is now 14. In the Midwest visiting an apple orchard or pumpkin patch is synonymous with the changing of the seasons from summer to fall. I’ve grown to love a certain orchard in the Chicagoland area, Heinz Orchard, for anyone interested in no-frills, simple apple picking in my locale. I highly recommend the simplicity of this farm. It has been great memory making for my crew.
Every year we pick a peck of apples. That is roughly 2 gallons of apples! That’s a lot of apples for a family of 4 (soon to be 5)! Aside from snacking on apples, I’ve created a lot of apple recipes over the years. Baked Apple Chips is one of my favorites!
Health Benefits of Apples
Some benefits of Apples
Rich in Fiber – Medium Sized Apple contains more than 4 g Fiber, which is 16% RV (recommended value). Fiber is essential for a healthy diet. Fiber reduces cholesterol levels, normalizes bowel movements, and can help improve blood sugar levels.
High Levels of Potassium – Potassium is present in all body tissues and is required for normal cell function because of its role in maintaining intracellular fluid volume. Potassium has a strong relationship with sodium, the main regulator of extracellular fluid volume, including plasma volume.
How to Bake Apple Chips
Preheat your Oven to 200 degrees F.
Thinly slice 2 medium sized apples using a Mandoline or slicer. This is my favorite Mandoline. I like the simplicity and size of it. And I can tuck it away in a drawer when not in use. On this particular Mandoline I slice at Level 3, which is about 1/8″ thick.
Toss apple slices with the juice of half a lemon and 2 tbsp water. This will keep the apples from browning and adds a good balance of acidity to the fruit when it bakes.
Remove apples to a parchment lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Your house will smell amazing while these Baked Apple Chips bake!
Bake apples for 1 hour. Remove tray from oven and flip each chip. Return to the oven and bake for another 1 hour until crispy. If desired crispness is not achieved, return to the oven in 20 minute increments until content with crispness. Voila! Baked Apple Chips!
